The alternating beams of green and white light from the Keystone Heights Airpark beacon sliced the frigid Florida air as Gainesville Composite Squadron members arrived for the Saturday Emergency Services training. The training, planned by C/1st Lt Joshua Davidson , commenced shortly after the sun rose. As cadets were learning how to locate the practice beacon Captain Jonathan Samonas (Commander, FL-337, and former FL-142 Cadet Commander) arrived unexpectedly. Four practice missions took place before the lunch break. The beacon had been hidden in various places, including next to a light pole and up a tree. At lunch, the air inside the hanger was cold enough that cadets could see their breath. The afternoon continued with drill and Urban Direction Finding led by Captain Samonas. While Captain Bob Oehl (Wings of Dreams Museum) gave the cadets an aerospace lesson, C/CMSgt Tyler Gwynn and C/Major Daniel Cook set up two compass orienteering courses. The first course was easy; the second was extremely challenging. The compass course and flight line training were conducted simultaneously with the cadets split into two teams. Pizza was served for dinner inside the warmth of the FBO. After a debriefing, everyone signed out and left the airpark. As everyone left the alternating beams of green and white from the Keystone Heights Airpark beacon sliced the frigid Florida air once again. The training Saturday was a success every minute of daylight was utilized and cadets left ready for the Wings of Dreams Air Show the next weekend.

30 July 2009 is a 'fifth meeting' for the month. Thanks to AMF and Alley Katz we've arranged to have two hours ( 19:00 - 21:00 ) of free bowling and shoe rental for the evening. This is good for anyone involved with our squadron - seniors, cadets, patron, family members. If you intend to join I only ask that you let me know during a meeting so that I can give Alley Katz an accurate assessment of our numbers.
Food & beverages are not included in the deal, but I'm having a menu sent to me so we can prearrange it if we want it.
The running plan is to go directly to Alley Katz for the evening. Capt Beukelman has announced that the uniform for this event is Civilian Casual.
